Benign Skin Lesions
Moles and cysts may require removal for diagnostic purposes or cosmetic reasons.
The vast majority of skin lesions can be dealt with under local anaesthetic at a ‘one-stop clinic‘. Examples of skin lesions commonly treated include moles, cysts, fatty lumps, and scars. Treatment can be achieved in many ways, including surgical excision, curettage/ shaving, and laser. Treatment modality depends on the type of lesion, its location, and other patient factors. The aim is a quick recovery and minimal scarring.
We offer a range of mole removal services.

We offer expert mole removal services by consultant plastic surgeons.
A plastic surgeon is well-trained and able to remove moles in a way that gives you the best cosmetic outcome. Plastic surgeons are usually asked to remove skin lesions in cosmetically sensitive areas such as around the eyes, nose, face, and lips. Additionally, plastic surgeons are used to dealing with benign lesions and skin cancers and will usually be able to distinguish between the two on clinical grounds.
Cyst removal
Cyst removal
Cysts are common, and removal can be performed under a local anaesthetic. Cysts may become enlarged and infected and require antibiotics or surgical drainage as an emergency. They are best removed while relatively small and when they are not actively infected.
Skin tags
Skin tags
Skin tags, also known as acrochordons, are small, non-cancerous growths that appear on the skin in areas where it folds or rubs against itself, such as the neck, armpits, and groin. These lesions are usually flesh-colored or slightly pigmented and are not harmful or painful. However, they can be a cosmetic concern or cause discomfort if they get irritated by clothing or jewelry. Although skin tags are common and generally not a health threat, many people choose to have them removed for aesthetic reasons or to alleviate any physical discomfort they may cause.
Lipomas
Lipomas
Lipomas are non-cancerous growths that develop in the soft tissues of the body and are primarily composed of fat cells. They usually appear as painless, soft, and movable lumps under the skin, commonly found on the neck, back, or shoulders. Lipomas come in different sizes and grow slowly, posing minimal health risks. However, they can cause discomfort or be a cosmetic concern for some people. Although lipomas are not typically dangerous, they are often removed for diagnostic purposes, symptom relief, or aesthetic reasons, using safe and effective surgical procedures.
Seborrheic Keratoses
Seborrheic Keratoses
Seborrheic keratoses are common non-cancerous skin growths that usually appear in middle-aged and older adults. They are raised, often rough, lesions that vary in colour and size from light tan to black. Although they are completely benign and not a sign of skin cancer, they can be a cosmetic concern, especially when they appear on highly visible areas such as the face, chest, and back. While they do not require medical treatment, many choose to have them removed due to their appearance or if they become irritated by clothing or jewellery.
Benign Skin Lesion Removal Services
At Quaba Cosmetic Surgery, we offer a comprehensive range of treatments for removing benign skin lesions, including moles, cysts, skin tags, lipomas, and keratoses. Our experienced team is dedicated to providing safe, effective, and minimally invasive options to meet each patient’s unique needs.
Our Treatment Options Include:
- Mole Removal:
- Surgical Excision:Â Ideal for larger moles or those requiring biopsy, this method involves cutting out the mole and a small margin of skin around it.
- Shave Excision:Â Best suited for raised moles, this technique shaves the mole down to the level of the surrounding skin.
- Cyst Removal:
- Minimal Excision:Â Removes the cyst with a small incision, reducing the risk of scarring.
- Puncture and Drainage:Â Suitable for inflamed cysts, this method involves draining the cyst’s contents.
- Skin Tag Removal:
- Cryotherapy:Â Freezes and destroys the skin tag, causing it to fall off.
- Electrosurgery:Â Burns off the skin tag with high-frequency electrical energy.
- Lipoma Removal:
- Surgical Excision:Â The most common method for removing lipomas involves an incision over the growth.
- Liposuction:Â A less invasive option for softer lipomas, using a suction technique to remove the fatty tissue.
- Seborrheic Keratoses Removal:
- Cryotherapy:Â Freezes the growth, making it easy to remove.
- Curettage and Electrosurgery:Â Scrapes off the growth and uses electricity to seal the skin.

Cyst removal – Excellent
Mr Quaba was excellent in dealing with my issue (cyst removal). He explained what would happen, and put me at ease. The procedure was very straightforward. My cyst did return quickly, and Mr Quaba was extremely helpful in explaining what was happening and in very quickly scheduling me in for follow-up procedure. At each stage I felt well informed and I am very happy with Mr Quaba and pleased with the outcome.
