Liposuction aftercare
At Quaba Plastic Surgery, we are committed to supporting your recovery after liposuction. Below is a general aftercare guide to help ensure a smooth healing process. Individual recovery experiences may vary, so always follow the specific advice provided by your surgeon.
Before You Leave the Clinic
Medications: Painkillers will be provided before discharge, which may include stronger medications like dihydrocodeine if needed.
Follow-Up Appointment: You’ll be given details of your first follow-up appointment and contact information for any post-operative concerns.
Transportation: Arrange for someone to take you home and stay with you overnight if you’ve had a general anaesthetic.
Compression garments
A snug compression garment after surgery supports healing, reduces swelling, and helps shape the treated area.
You can purchase a garment before surgery. Brands such as Macom and Lipoelastic are recommended. Sizing guides are available on their websites.
At Home Recovery
Week 1
•Rest and light movement around your home are encouraged to promote circulation.
•Wear your compression garment continuously, removing it only as advised for showering.
•Shower carefully without disturbing dressings or sutures. Gently pat the area dry.
•Expect swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort, which can be managed with prescribed medications.
•Avoid smoking and alcohol, as they can delay healing and worsen swelling.
•You may consider driving after the first week if you’re no longer on strong painkillers.
•You’ll attend a nurse appointment to check your progress and remove any dressings or sutures.
Week 2
•Swelling and bruising will begin to improve, though the treated area may still feel firm or tender.
•Continue wearing your compression garment as advised.
•You may feel ready to return to work if it’s office-based or non-physical. More physical jobs may require waiting until the end of this week.
Weeks 3 and 4
•Most of the swelling (80–90%) will have settled, though some firmness or shooting pains as nerves heal may persist.
•Moisturize incision sites with plain moisturiser or bio-oil to aid scar healing.
•You can start gentle exercise after four weeks, gradually increasing to more strenuous activities by week six.
When to contact us
Seek immediate advice if you experience:
•Increased swelling, redness, or discharge at incision sites.
•Swelling in your legs or shortness of breath, which may indicate a clot.
•Severe pain unrelieved by medication.
•Side effects from medications, such as rash, nausea, or vomiting.
•A persistent fever over 38°C.
Your recovery is our priority, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.
Tummy tuck and Lipo
I had wanted tummy tuck for a time, after 2 pregnancies, had left a large volume of excess skin.
Mr Omar Quaba was excellent from my initial consultation, he was approachable and I felt reassured, all the way to aftercare. I am delighted with the results. I would definitely recommend this surgeon.
